George Frideric Handel

The 2nd Nocturne Supper Club in Brockham, Surrey on Saturday, 6th. November was aptly themed with George Frideric Handel's Music For The Royal Fireworks, since it followed the British folk festival known as Bonfire or Guy Fawkes Night, a tradition held on the 5th November each year, in remembrance of the Gunpowder Plot in 1605. Handel’s music was actually commissioned by King George II in 1749 to celebrate the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle,
ending the War of the Austrian Succession.

The dining experience curated by our chef, Mary Ince, the theme of Handel’s Firework Music included early to mid-18th Century delights from Pea Soup to Game Pie and pickles to a variety of delicious desserts. The wines were also cleverly chosen to reflect
the period and festivity of fireworks.

Martineau Brass, an ensemble based in Dorking, Surrey, played the thrilling Overture to Handel’s Music For The Royal Fireworks, and the main feature film presented a spectacular performance of the Firework Music given by the French ensemble Le Concert Spiritual, conducted by Hervé Niquet, and accompanied by a fabulous firework display in front of Chateau de Chambord,
in the Loire Valley, France.

The theme for our second supper club at
Brockham Village Hall, Brockham, Surrey on
Saturday, 6th. November 2021 is
George Frideric Handel’s Music For The Royal Fireworks.

We will be joined for a live performance of Handel’s music by special guests Martineau Brass, and witness on film an amazing firework display, accompanied by an orchestra using original instruments.

Our Chef in Residence, Mary Ince will conjure up a feast appropriate to our composer,
his chosen composition, and time in history, whilst our sommelier,
Frank Dudley will curate thematic wines for the occasion.
